死海的发展前景
长期以来在死海的前途命运问题上，一直存在着两种截然不同的观点：一种认为，死海在日趋干涸。在漫长的岁月中，死海不断地蒸发浓缩，湖水越来越少，盐度也就越来越高。在中东地区，夏季气温高达50℃以上。唯一向它供水的约旦河水又被用于灌溉，所以死海面临着水源枯竭的危险。不久的将来，死海将不复存在。另一种观点则认为：死海位于著名的叙利亚-非洲大断带的最低处，而这个大断裂带还正处于幼年时期，终有一天，死海底部会产生裂缝，而从地壳深处冒出海水。随着裂缝的不断扩大，死海将生长出一个新的海洋。
