I turned my head to follow his narroweyedgaze.
Entering the hall and shuffling in ourdirection was a new arrival. Hatless andgloveless，the elderly man was clad inlightweight pants，a threadbare jacket andopen shoes. His hands were raw，and hisface had a bluish tint. I wasn’t alone ingasping aloud at this sad sight，but my needyneighbor was the only one doing anythingabout it.
Setting aside his meal，he leaped upand guided the elderly man to an adjacentseat. He took his icy hands and rubbed thembriskly in his own. With a final tenderness，he draped his worn jacket over the olderman’s shoulders.
“Pop，my name’s Jack，” he said，“andone of God’s angels brought me this meal. Ijust finished eating and hate to waste goodfood. Can you help me out？”
He placed the still-warm bowl of soupin the stranger’s hands without waiting foran answer. But he got one.
“Sure，son，but if only you go halfwaywith me on that sandwich. It’s too much fora man at my age.”
It wasn’t easy making my way to thefood court with tears blurring my vision，but I soon returned with large containersof coffee and a big assortment of pastries.

One day，a poor boy who was
trying to pay his way through schoolby selling goods door to door foundthat he only had one dime left. Hewas hungry so he decided to beg fora meal at the next house.
