Pencil and Eraser

Pencil: You know,I’m reallysorry.

Eraser: For what? You didn’tdo anything wrong.

Pencil: I’m sorry, because youget hurt because of me. WheneverI make a mistake, you are alwaysthere to erase it. But as you makemy mistakes vanish, you lose a partof yourself. You get smaller andsmaller.

Eraser: That’s true, but I don’treally mind. You see,I was made to do this.

I was made to help you whenever you do something wrong. Even though, one of these days,I know I’ll be gone and you have to replace me with a new one,I’m actually happy with myjob. So please, stop worrying. I hate seeing you sad.

Room in the Heart

A poor woodcutter and his wifelived in the forest in a small hut, sosmall that there was space only forhim and his wife to stretch out andsleep.

O n e d a r k s t o r m y n i g h t ,somebody knocked on the door.

The woodcutter asked his wife toopen the door and let the strandedstranger in.

She said,“But there is no space.”

The man laughed and said,“This is nota palace of a king, where you will alwaysfind a shortage of space. This is a poor man’s hut. Two can sleep well; three can sit. We willcreate space. Just open the door.”

And the door was opened. The man came in gratefully, and they all sat telling stories toeach other. Then came another knock. The owner of the hut told the stranger,“Friend, openthe door. Somebody else is lost.” And the man said,“But there is no space.”

The woodcutter said,“If three persons can sit comfortably, four persons can sit a littlecloser, with a little less comfort. But we will create the space.”

The stranger reluctantly opened thedoor. And a man entered gratefully. And thensuddenly came a strange knock, which didnot seem to be a man’s! The woodcutter said,“Open the door. I know who is knocking. Itis my donkey. In this wide world he is myonly friend.”

Everyone protested,“Where is thedonkey going to stand?”

The man said,“A poor man’s hut isalways spacious. Right now we are sitting;when the donkey comes in we will all stand.”

Yimy

Principles are Lighthouses

It was a dark and stormy night.

The officer on the bridge cameto the captain and said,“Captain,Captain, there is a light in our sealane and they won’t move.”

“What do you mean they won’tmove? Tell them to move. Tell themstarboard right now.”

T h e s i g n a l w a s s e n t o u t ,“Starboard,starboard,” The signalcomes back,“Starboard yourself.”

“I can’t believe this. What’s goingon here? Let them know who I am.” Thesignal sent out,“this is the mighty Missouri ,starboard.” The signal comes back,“This is thelighthouse.”

My friends, correct principles are lighthouses, they do not move. They are nature laws.

We can’t break them. We can only break ourselves against them. We might as well learnthem, accommodate them, utilize them and be grateful for them. Then it enlarges us andemancipates us and empowers us.

T.S. Eliot once said something I think is appropriate as we come to the conclusion of022 不畏将来,不念过往our visit together. He said,“We shall notcease from exploration and the end of all ourexploring will be to arrive where we startedand know the place for the first time.”

What Goes Around Comes Around

One day a man saw an old lady, stranded on the side of the road, but even in the dim light of day, hecould see she needed help. So hepulled up in front of her Mercedesand got out. His Pontiac was stillsputtering when he approached her.

Even with the smile on hisface, she was worried. No one hadstopped to help for the last houror so. Was he going to hurt her? Hedidn’t look safe; he looked poor andhungry.

He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how shefelt. It was those chills which only fear can put in you.

He said,“I’m here to help you,ma’am. Why don’t you wait in the car where it’s warm?

By the way,my name is Bryan Anderson.”
