第17章 Homeward Oxherds in Wind and Rain-LiDi

Homeward Oxherds in Wind and Rain, a Song Dynasty(960.1279) painting by Li Di, ink and slight color on silk, 123.7cm×105.6cm, in the collection of the Palace Museum, Taipei.

Li Di, a Southern Song(1127.1279) painter, did well in drawing flowers, birds, bamboos, rocks and animals. His works, such as Homeward Oxherds in Wind and Rain, Fowls in Snow-covered Trees, are handed down to posterity.

The painting depicts the scene that two boys, both wearing bamboo rain hat and straw rain cape, drive buffaloes back home in a stormy day. Swaying branches, the staggering buffalo, boys tightly lying on the back of buffalo, highlight the scene in realistic and vivid approaches.
