第22章 New Year Offerings-Zhao Chang

New Year Offerings, a Song Dynasty(960. 1279) hanging scroll by Zhao Chang, ink and color on silk, 103.8cm×51.2cm, in the collection of the Palace Museum, Taipei.

Zhao Chang, a painter in the early Song Dynasty, did well in drawing flowers, birds, grasses and insects with bright colors. Called himself a sketcher, he stressed drawing from life and was reputed at that time. Many of his painting were put on the Xuanhe Painting Catalogue of the Song Dynasty. This paining is his representative work. There are daffodils and standing rocks on its complicated composition.
