Bamboo Groves in Misty Rain, a Yuan Dynasty(1279.1368) hand scroll by Guan Daosheng, ink and color on paper, 23.1cm×113.7cm, in the collection of the Palace Museum, Taipei.
Guan Daosheng(1262.1319), wife of Zhao Mengfu, was proficient at poem, calligraphy and painting. She liked to draw landscapes, ink bamboos, plums, orchids and images of Buddha. This work was drawn in 1308, the first year of Zhida reign of the Yuan Dynasty. Bamboo groves in it exhibit a tranquil and elegant atmosphere and idyllic appeal. It is drawn in delicate strokes and light ink, and objects and colors are scattered orderly.
