第93章 Clearing after Snow over Rivers and Mountains-Lan

Clearing after Snow over Rivers and Mountains, a Ming Dynasty(1368.1644) painting by Lan Ying, ink and color on silk, 82.3cm×28.9cm, in the collection of the Palace Museum, Taipei.

Lan Ying(ca.1585.1664), a Ming artist, had huge impacts on paintings in the late Ming and early Qing period. His paintings were labeled as “Wulin school of painting”or “later Zhejiang school of painting.” Lan Ying was good at drawing landscapes, flowers and rocks. Clearing after Snow over Rivers and Mountains was drawn in 1623, the third year of the Tianqi reign. Its inscription imitates that of Wang Wei of the Tang Dynasty. In it are range upon range of mountains and meandering streams, vast expanse of white snow and several thatched cottages hidden in groves. A person sits in a small boat, appreciating snow scenes despite coldness.
