Beihai Port is a fishing center in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region where modern vessels and traditional junks vie the seas for fish and shrimps, making this a vibrant port today reflecting its long and ancient history as one of China’s major commercial and trading centers. It is one of China’s earliest ports and was part of the ancient “Silk Road” trading network.

Huangchenghe Reservoir guarantees the need of water supply in western China.

China seeks to harness the flow of water for alternative clean forms of energy as in the case of this Xiaolangdi Hydropower Plant in Henan Province, to light the homes and computer networks of the nation.

Shanghai’s 3,900-meter Lupu Bridge spans not only the Huangpu River itself but both time and space by reaching from Shanghai’s old financial district in Puxi with its neoclassic and art deco architecture to the new modernistic sky scrapers of new Shanghai’s Pudong international economic and financial zone.

In Guizhou Province the Miao people built ancient villages beside networks of rivers, with architecture reflecting tradition, a dialogue between the Miao people and their splendorous natural environment.

China’s Northeast Changbai Mountain covered in snow is historically a source of tradition, heritage and marveling at the sheer beauty of nature.

In Shaanxi Province the Hukou Waterfall erupts with wrath of the Yellow River, once known as “China’s Sorrow” as its water not only nurtures ancient agricultural basins but its capricious changes have led to some of China’s worst floods making the river a dragon in its own nature, and a challenge for China’s past emperors and modern leaders to tame.

Haihe River in Tianjin which was one of China’s most important industrial centers and today is emerging as a new financial center given its proximity to Beijing and the coast.

Shenzhen coastline offers warm beaches in this subtropical climate. Shenzhen is where many market experiments began in this special economic zone across from Hong Kong where new ideas merged to drive forward a new market dynamism which thrives to this day.

Since ancient times Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces were rich in agriculture and fishing. As a rich land it reflects the value of Chinese people that materialism will assure happiness. So here in the waters there are many fish and in the houses many people. The sun rise purple and this is an expression of the new-found material wealth of China and the people.

The Sun and Moon Lakes in China’s Taiwan is a natural site which has become a pleasure vacation retreat. The lake is in mountains making it a “heavenly lake” or natural wonder.

The Yamzhog Yumco is a sacred lake in Tibet famed for its turquoise hued waters that reflect the sky. Sacred lakes are worshiped as sources of energy and power usually associated with protector spirits and natural cycles of life.

Celebrated dancer and choreographer Yang Liping performs in her own production “Yunnan Impressions” which presents a fusion of traditional ethnic minority song and dance from Yunnan Province as part of cultural preservation and sustainable development.

Lugu Lake which straddles both Sichuan and Yunnan provinces is home to the mysterious and pragmatic Mosuo ethnic group, arguably the world’s last matriarchal society. Here property is inherited by women who are free to choose the boyfriends and husbands, and send them away, as they please. Here women rule!

Ancient water towns are a feature of China’s past. Many of them have been preserved as heritage sites. Lijiang is the best preserved as heritage of the ancient Naxi Kingdom a precious jewel of this rich culture. Other towns in the Jiangnan area reflect their former role as waterways of commerce exuding with the Chinese value of commercialism as the source of living and life.

Morning in Heilongjiang’s Qiqihar nature reserve, storks awaken to a new dawn. They are the Chinese symbol of long life.

Located in the northern part of Xinjiang, Kanas is a mysterious place. “Kanas” means “beautiful, rich and mysterious land” or “lake in the valley.” When the smoke and cloud wreathe, the snowy mountains in the distance are partly hidden and partly visible, giving people a feeling of being at fairy place. This is China ’s only natural reserve bordering on four countries and a rare natural region having the features of European ecological system. There are many rare animals and plants in Kanas. It’s said that there’s a kind of rare fish—“big red fish” which is dubbed as “lake monster” in Kanas Lake.

The Detian Waterfall in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region near the Sino-Vietnamese border is a natural wonder of beauty which both inspires and intrigues.

Snow covered Qilianshan Mountain supplies rich artesian water to Badanjilin Desert. Here is a shot of an oasis in the desert famous for its natural beauty.
