Tucked away in our subconsciousness is an idyllic1 vision. We see ourselves on a long trip that spans the continent. We are travelling by train. Out the windows， we drink in the passing scene of cars on nearby crossing，highways， of children waving on a crossing， of cattle grazing on a distant hillside， of smoke pouring from a power plant， of row upon row of corn and wheat， of flatlands and valleys， of mountains and rolling hillsides， of city skylines and village halls.
But the uppermost in our minds is the final destination. On a certain day at a certain hour， we will pull into the station. Bands will be playing and flags waving. Once we reach there， so many wonderful dreams will come true and the pieces of our lives will be fit together like a completed jigsaw2 puzzle. How restlessly we pace the aisles3，damning the minutes loitering4，waiting， waiting， waiting for the station.
“When we reach the station， that will be it”，we cry.“When I"m 18”，“When I buy a new 450SL Mercedes Benz”，“When I put my last kid through college”，“When I have paid off the mortgage”，“When I get a promotion”，“When I reach the age of the retirement， I shall live happily ever after.”
Sooner or later， we must realize that there is no station， no one place to arrive at once and for all. The true joy of life is the trip. The station is only a dream. It constantly outdistances5 us.
It isn"t the burdens of today that drive men mad. It is the regrets over yesterday and the fear of tommorrow. Reget and fear are twin thieves who rob us of today.
So stop pacing the aisles and counting the miles. Instead， climb more mountains， eat more icecreams， go barefoot more often， swim more rivers， watch more sunsets， laugh more and cry less. Life must be lived as we go along. Then the station will come soon enough.

有一片田园般的风光隐藏在我们每个人的潜意识里。我们好像置身于一次横跨大陆的漫漫旅程之中！我们乘着火车旅行，窗外移动的景色让我们心旷神怡，高速公路上疾驰的汽车、十字路口处挥手致意的孩子、远山上啃食青草的牛群、从电厂排出的股股烟尘、一排排整齐的玉米和小麦地、平原与山谷、高山与丘陵、地平线处城市的轮廓，以及乡间的庄园！
但是始终萦绕在我们脑海里的却是目的地。总有那么一天的某一刻，我们将会驶进终点站！那时器乐合奏、彩旗飘扬！一旦到了终点，多少美梦将成为现实，我们的生活也将如同一块理好了的拼图一样完整！可是如今，我们在火车走廊里是多么不耐烦地踱来踱去啊，抱怨时间怎么那么漫长，焦急地等待着，等待着终点站的来临。
我们呼喊着，“当我们到达终点站时，一切就都好了！”“当我长大，18岁的时候！”“当我买了一辆崭新的奔驰450SL的时候！”“当我顺利供完最小的孩子读完大学的时候！”“当我还清贷款的时候！”“当我晋升的时候！”“当我到了退休年龄的时候，从此我就能幸福地生活了。”
迟早我们会意识到人生的旅途没有终点站，没有哪一站可以让你“一劳永逸”，停止前进。生命中真正的乐趣在我们的旅途中。终点站只不过是个梦，它始终在我们的前方，可望而不可及。
令人发疯的不是今日的负担，而是对昨日的悔恨和对明日的恐慌。悔恨与恐慌是偷走今天的双胞胎窃贼。
因此，停止在过道里踱来踱去的脚步吧，别老惦记着你离车站还有多少公里！相反，你应该攀爬更多的高山，多吃点儿冰淇淋，多光着脚板儿散步，畅游更多的河流，多欣赏夕阳，多些欢笑，少些泪水！生活只会随着我们的前进而前进。那么，终点将在不远的未来。
