Glenfiddich is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family owned and is now the Worlds Most Awarded Single Malt Scotch Whisky, a true reflection of the founders integrity and innovative spirit, passed down through the generations.

In the summer of 1886, with the help of his seven sons and two daughters, William Grant set out to fulfill a lifelong ambition. Together they began building his distillery by hand, stone by stone. After a single year of work it was ready and William Grant named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer.

In 1923, when prohibition was in full swing, Williams grandson Grant Gordon joined the family firm, which surprised the industry and increased whisky production. As the decade and the law turned, it was one of only six distilleries still operating in Scotland.

In 1959, soon after coppersmiths were brought onsite,he built up a dedicated cooperage.

In 1963, Sandy Grant Gordon, great grandson of William, made Glenfiddich the first to be actively promoted outside Scotland. Consumers around the world used to drinking blended whisky, were initiated to the delights of single malt.

Independent as ever, invention flourished at Glenfiddich. With over 35 years of experience and industry-wide recognition, the fifth Malt Master created the Solera Vat in 1998.
