贫困与反贫困是一个世界性的问题。移民扶贫异地开发是解决生产、生活条件和生态环境极其恶劣地区贫困人口脱贫致富的有效途径之一。武义县通过移民扶贫——下山脱贫方式使4万多高山、深山人民摆脱贫穷，走上致富的康庄大道。地处海拔1041米高山上的九龙山村正是下山脱贫工程的受益村之一，过去“出门行路难、儿童上学难、青年娶亲难、生病就医难、用水用电难、邮电通讯难、发展经济难”的问题自搬迁下山后全都得到了解决。武义下山脱贫的成功范例，2002年入选在南非召开的世界可持续发展首脑会议——地球峰会的交流材料，2004年5月入选在上海召开的全球扶贫大会典型，向全世界进行推广。
本书在田野调查基础上，以九龙山村为例，运用文化人类学和跨学科的理论方法对武义县九龙山村“下山脱贫”的社会文化变迁和文化适应进行考察和研究。本书重点对九龙山村下山后在生产、生活以及思想方面的适应和变迁情况进行研究。下山后村民对生产、生活方面的适应有一个过渡期，过渡期以后便能完全适应山下的生活。随着与外界接触的增加，村民在思想观念上也发生了根本改变。现在的村民幸福感十足，对山下生活的满意度比对山上生活的满意度高出一倍。可见，生活条件和生活质量的提高可大大增强农民的幸福感。新九龙山村的农民兄弟开始过上了幸福生活。

Basedonthefieldinvestigation，theauthortakesthetheoreticalmethodsofculturalanthropologyandtheotherinterdisciplinaryapproachestomakearesearchandinvestigationonthesocialandculturalchangesandadaptationofJiulongshanvillageafterdownthemountain.Thedissertationfocusesonthestudyofthevillage’schangesandadaptationfromaspectsofproduction，lifeandtheirideasafterdownthemountain.Theremustbeatransitionperiodforthemtoadapttothecurrentlifeandproduction，butafterit，theywillbeabletofullyadapttothedownhilllife.Alongwiththeincreaseincontactswiththeoutsideworld，thevillagershavealsoundergoneafundamentalchangeinpeople’sideasandminds.Nowthevillagershavefullsenseofhappiness，andshowtheirsatisfactiondegreewiththedownhilllifeonetimehigherthanthelifespentinthemountain.Thus，theimprovementofthelivingconditionsandqualityoflifecangreatlyenhancetheirsenseofhappiness.
