Johnny Depp was born on June 9， 1963 in Owensboro， Kentucky. He has one brother and two sisters. His family is of Irish， German and Cherokee Indian ancestry. As a child， his family moved around a lot， in fact it is reported that they moved almost 20 times during his childhood. The Depp family finally ended up in southern Florida when Johnny was 7 years old.
At the beginning of his acting career， Depp’s first role in a major motion picture came in the 1984 horror① film A Nightmare on Elm Street in which he played the heroine"s boyfriend. In 1986 he had a small role in Oliver Stone"s classic Vietnam War movie， Platoon. These roles helped land him a lead role on the late 1980s hit TV show 21 Jump Street. The success of the film led to a long and close relationship with the director of the movie， Tim Burton. Depp went on to star in several of his films including Ed Wood (1994)， Sleepy Hollow (1999)， Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005) and the Corpse Bride (2006).
Depp’s most successful movie to date is now the world famous Pirates of the Caribbean： The Curse of the Black Pearl. The movie became a huge commercial success， and Depp was nominated for an academy award for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. One of his co-stars in the movie described Depp’s role as “one of the most popular performances of recent times”. In 2004 Depp was again nominated for Best Actor in the movie Finding Neverland.
After the divorce from his first wife， Depp dated and was engaged to several different famous actresses and models. Since 1998， he has been involved with French actress Vanessa Paradis and the couple now have two children， a son and daughter. The family splits④ their time between Los Angeles and France. Depp is said to enjoy the much quieter and laid back life he finds on his farm in the French countryside.
