From humble① beginnings， Jamie Foxx， who was born in Texas in 1967， has risen to considerable fame② and fortune. Jamie started off in stand-up comedy， often doing impersonations of former US president Ronald Reagan. His first time on stage was in 1989， when his girlfriend encouraged him to take part in a local open mic night. By 1996， he had his own comedy series， The Jamie Foxx Show， which became one of the top-rated shows on the WB network.
Moving to the big screen， Foxx was well received by critics and audiences alike for his breakout performance in the American football picture Any Given Sunday， playing the egocentric③ star scorer Willie Beamen. From then on the sky was the limit， as he co-starred with Will Smith in the biopic Ali in 2001， before taking on the role of musician Ray Charles in 2004’s Ray. For this role， Jamie Foxx won the Best Actor Oscar. He is one of a handful of people ever to be nominated④ for two acting Oscar categories in the same year and thanks to his recent collaboration⑤ with hip-hop star Kanye West—the only person ever to have both won a Best Actor Oscar and had a US number one hit single.
