It was previously believed to be a work of Ma Lin， a Southern Song（1127.1279） painter. Ma Lin was the son of painter Ma Yuan. Inherited the knowledge from his family， he was good at painting characters， landscapes， birds and flowers. His extant works include Autumn Scenery under the Setting Sun， The Portrait of Yu the Great and Two Branches of Plum Blossoms. This work has a concise composition： a pair of sparrows is snuggling up to each other at a tree branch with red autumnal leaves， which adds a sense of warmth to the cold artistic atmosphere.
