Tao Gu Presents a Poem, a Ming Dynasty(1368.1644) painting by Tang Yin, ink and color on silk, 168.8 cm×102.1cm, in the collection of the Palace Museum, Taipei.
Tang Yin(1470.1523), a Ming artist, was good at poem, calligraphy and painting. Easy and elegant bearing, he calls himself the number one gifted scholar in Southern China. As one of the most outstanding artists, he was good at painting landscapes, characters, birds and flowers. Tang Yin, Wen Zhengming, Qiu Ying and Shen Zhou were acclaimed as “Four Great Painters in the Ming Dynasty.”
Based on historical events, this painting has a well-arranged layout, superb composition. With its excellence in both appearance and verve, it can be rated as a painting masterpiece deserving handing-down to the very future ages.
