第79章 Two Eagles-Lin Liang

Two Eagles, a Ming Dynasty(1368. 1644) painting by Lin Liang, ink and slight color on silk,160cm×51.8cm, in the collection of the Guangdong Provincial Museum, Guangzhou.

Lin Liang, a famous painter in mid Ming period, worked as a court painter during the Tianshun reign(1457.1464) of the Ming Dynasty. He was good at painting flowers and featuring birds, with such subject matters like eagles, wild geese, cranes, peacocks and golden pheasants. He enjoyed equal fame with Lü Ji in the imperial art academy. A then saying was that “Lin Liang and Lü Ji are unparalleled in the world.” Lin Liang was a representative of imperial-court painting school in the mid Ming period. His works are vivid and full of idyllic appeal. This one is a cultural relic under first-level national protection.
