Bridget:Oh,no,no.I was in London at a party last night...so I’m afraid I’m a bit hung over.Wish I could be lying with my head in a toilet like all normal people.New Year’s resolution:Drink less.Oh,and quit smoking.(smoking and laughing)And keep New Year’s resolutions. And stop talking total nonsense to strangers. In fact, stop talking full stop.

On the street,Bridget was going to leave with her friends for Paris in order to forget Mark.Mark appeared unexpectedly in front of her.

Mark:Bridget.

Bridget:What are you doing here?

Mark:I just wanted to know if you were available...for bar mitzvahs1 and christenings2 as well as ruby3 weddings.

Bridget:Excellent speech.I thought that you were in America.

Mark:Yes,I was,but...I realized I’d forgotten something back home.

Bridget:Which was?

Mark:I realized I’d forgotten to...kiss you good-bye.Do you mind?

Bridget:Not really,no.So,you’re not going to America,then?

Mark:No.Not.

Bridget:You’re staying here?

Mark:So it would seem.Mark kissed Bridget.Bridget’s friends were yelling and honking the car horn.

Mark:Friends of yours?

Bridget:(Jokingly)No,I’ve never seen them before in my life.

Mark:Maybe we should just go upstairs for a minute.

Bridget:Very good idea.

At home.

Bridget:Give me just a minute.Keep yourself busy.Read something.Lots of very high-quality magazines...with helpful fashion and romance tips.I’ll be right with you.(to herself)Definitely an occasion for...genuinely tiny knickers4.

Mark found Bridget’s diary on the table in which he saw Bridget wrote,“Mum was really scraping the barrel with Mark Darcy. He acts like he’s got a giant gherkin thrust up his backside…Mark is rude.He is unpleasant. He is dull—no wonder his clever wife left him.”

Mark:Right.

Hearing the sound of door closing,Bridget went out and found Mark was gone. She noticed her diary was open.

Bridget:Mark.Mark…Oh,shit!Double shit.(running back to grab shoes and a coat)Bollocks5!Oh,God.(nearly crashing into an old man)Wish me luck!

Old man:Good luck,crazy girl!

Bridget ran to another street, seeing Mark going out from a shop.Mark walked towards her.Bridget:Mark…I’m so sorry.I didn’t mean it.I mean,I meant it.But I was so stupid that I didn’t mean what I meant.(realizing herself wore nothing but a thin coat in the snowy evening)Oh,for Christ’s sakes. It’s only a diary.Everyone knows diaries are just full of crap6.

Mark:I know that.I was just buying you a new one.Time to make a new start, perhaps.
